About the Course Minimum age 16


The purpose of the American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor course is to train instructor candidates to teach and conduct Swimming and Water Safety Program courses, including Basic Water Rescue course, the 6 levels of Learn-to Swim, Parent and Child Aquatics among others. 
 
There is approximately 6 hours of online learning that must be completed prior to the first class. Registration must be completed by May 25 to allow enough time to complete this portion. 
Prerequisites:

• Must pass a swimming skills test and demonstrate swim skills at or above a Level 4 ability.

• Swim the following strokes for 25 yards each; front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, sidestroke, and butterfly for 15 yards

• Maintain position on back 1 minute in deep water (float or sculling)

• Tread water for 1 minute

Certification:

American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor: Valid for 2 years
