Why can't my child take the bus home on certain days?
Safety, attendance, and knowledge of the children enrolled in the program are our most important goals. We must have your child signed in and out everyday by a parent or an authorized individual. Participants in this program are to report to the site every day when school is in session.
Please remember that when you sign up for the program, you sign up for the entire month. Participants are not allowed to take a bus to school when they are enrolled for morning care or from school when they are enrolled for afternoon care. Unfortunately, we cannot customize schedules for individual families.
Who will be supervising the children?
Each school will have a Site Director in charge of the site. This person will be at least 21 years old and have either a degree in child development or related field or have extensive experience with children. An Assistant Director and many trained Program Leaders will also be on site. We will hold a maximum ratio of 1 staff member to 10 children. All directors will be CPR and First Aid certified.
What do I do if my child is going to be absent from the program?
Please notify your child's 4th "R" Site Director if your child will be absent, late, or picked up early from the morning or afternoon program. Each morning and afternoon, your child's Site Director will take attendance. If your child is not present, South Windsor Parks and Recreation will make every effort to contact you and confirm this absence.
Will time be given in the daily schedule for my child to start their homework?
Homework Time occurs Monday through Thursday. The program schedules 30 minutes for Homework Time. Staff will enforce a positive, interactive, quiet study environment for students. Staff will not check or assist your child with their homework. If your child's homework cannot be completed in the 30 minutes, additional time may be needed at home with the parent or guardian.
How will I receive information, flyers and notices while my child participates in the program?
You should always speak directly to your Site Director first when it comes to questions about your child's involvement with the program. This includes questions about policies, procedures, games, activities and homework. There are individual parent mailboxes located at the sign-in/sign-out table that should be checked daily for important flyers, permission slips, or even your child's art work.
What type of activities will my child do while attending the 4th "R" Program?
While parents are at work, their elementary school children can participate in a safe, high quality and affordable program right at their own school. The 4th "R" Program will provide physical activity and cultural enrichment while helping children develop important skills to improve their health, intellect, and social skills. The program will include recreation stations, homework/quiet time, and arts and crafts time.
