Commission's Corner Spring/Summer 2009
The Park and Recreation Commission (PARC) welcomes its new Town Council Liaison, Gary Bazzano to the meeting table, and we look forward to working closely with him on current and future initiatives.
Recently completed projects include:
Received final construction plans and new cost estimates for the development of Lawrence Road Park.
The off-leash dog park at Nevers Park by the culdesac on Chief Ryan Way.
New soccer field and combination lacrosse/football field at Rye Street Park. Works-in-progress include:
Proposed building construction for storage, concession and restrooms at Rye Street Park.
Investigating the potential phasing in approach to development of Lawrence Road Park, phase one to include clearing and marking of walking trials.
Support of an Indoor Batting/Pitching Facility at Rotary Field
Planning & developing walking and biking trails throughout town through the South Windsor Walk & Wheel Ways sub-committee.
Continue our on-going Change In Youth Sports Culture Initiative.
Preliminary research and discussion for future projects:
Skate-Board Park (site to be determined).
Walking Trails at Rye Street Park.
Additional recreation facilities at Veterans Memorial Park (volleyball, basketball and playground).
Perimeter fencing for My Friends Place Playground.
Disc Golf Course (site to be determined).
The PARC meets the second Wednesday of the month (except August) at 7:30pm at the Town Hall. All eleven regular meetings are open to the public and we welcome any input, suggestions, or concerns about items listed above, or any new ideas for improving recreational opportunities to our residents.
