Aerobics with Strength Training
Your body naturally loses muscle strength and muscle mass as you get older. You can reduce this trend by adding strength-training exercise to your personal fitness program. It enhances health by improving your strength, stimulating muscle growth, helping to maintain a higher metabolic rate therefore burning more calories, helping you to control your weight. It strengthens ligaments and bones, decreasing injury risk and helps to prevent osteoporosis. You will improve your posture and reduce back pain while it enhances your overall tone, shape and physique. Each class will included the entire aerobic program with an added focus on increasing strength and endurance through slow and controlled movements. Students are asked to provide a set of hand-held weights between 1-5 pounds.

As our continuing commitment to provide quality service and instruction to the South Windsor and extended community, the South Windsor Recreation Department and Kokondo Karate Adult Self Defense is hosting a monthly Co-ed self defense class. This two hour class will cover the strategies and techniques for effective and practical self defense. Including a Women’s only section! This hands on class will teach you that body dynamics and good technique is better than strength alone. We will cover escapes from wrist, hair and upper body grabs. Also, choke escapes, blocking techniques for strikes and kicks and practical counter attacks with special attention to the “little things” regardless of physical limitation. Come prepared to work and have fun. Remember your safety is our number one concern. Wear comfortable but durable clothes, no thin tee’s or shirt that may tear easily. Please, no jewelry that can get broken or scratch your partner. A snack and water bottle is a good idea.

Yoga
Paul and Sydnie Cote, Kripalu Certified Professional Level Yoga teachers, and Kripalu certified teachers under his direction will teach the class.
Yoga teaches you how to stretch! The deep stretching you learn in this yoga class will release excess muscle tensions that create chronic soreness and stiffness. Plus if you keep practicing, before long you will also discover that you’re getting physically stronger, especially those parts of your body that have been chronically weak. You’ll also learn how to breathe deeply. Deep breathing is one of the most simple ways to improve your over-all health. You’ll notice a difference in just a few weeks. In addition, this yoga class will teach you how to relax. Relaxation will free your mind of its chronic tension and dramatically lower your stress levels. Because the benefits of yoga accumulate over time, we offer a deep discount for students committing to 2 consecutive 7-week sessions. No prior yoga experience is necessary. This is a basic yoga class and is appropriate for all levels of fitness. Yoga mat suggested. The class is taught by experienced Kripalu Certified yoga teachers.
