40th Anniversary Party

The local community converged upon the Rotary Baseball Field at Nevers Park to Celebrate 40 years of municipal recreation services in the Town of South Windsor.  The display inlcuded a "mascot mania", magic show, Tire Biter concert, department awards, and a giant fireworks display.

"Mascot Mania" kicked the day off, as many mascots came together to celebrate the recreation department's own mascot's (Ben E. Fits) 10th Birthday.  Mascots in attendance were; CCSU Blue Devil, Hamburglar and Grimace of Macdonald's. Orchard Hill Owl, Wapping Wolf, SWHS Bobcat, New Britain Rock Cat, CT Defender Eagle, and Special Guests Walley the Green Monster and the Recreation Department's newest mascot addition Betty Fits.

The crowd began to build as Tirebiter took the stage and played the first ever concert at Rotary Baseball Field.  The Recreation Department used the intermission to recognize those people who have provided outstanding service to the Recreation Department, with the first annual awards ceremony (see Department Recognitions article).  As Tirebiter closed out their set, a new theme song for the department “Benny and the Fits” was performed as a sing-a-long by summer camp staff and campers.

The highlight of the night was a booming fireworks display done by Bay Fireworks Company of Farmingdale, NY.  The show, shot from Nevers Baseball Field was seen by thousands at the Rotary Baseball Field, South Windsor High School and Nevers Soccer Fields.   Thank you to all for coming out and a special thank you to those who have helped in providing recreation opportunities for the past 40 years.
